Meet Mr SJ Ivason, the school principal of Darnell Secondary School in Durban, South Africa. This short video shows Mr Ivason’s excitement and enthusiasm for BluPoint technology and how it will change the lives of his students. BluPoint will not only improve their access to information, but also their attendance.
“My name is Ivason, SJ, principal of Darnall Secondary School. I’ve been a teacher, well a teacher first before principal, and my field is mathematics and information technology (IT).
For thirteen years I have been trying to get my school to connect to the Internet. I believe not offering learners access to the Internet is an injustice to the learners.
I am so excited to see a gadget, a BluPoint, that was shown with us at a workshop in my school. Within a second I was connected to the Internet.
I think my school is going to improve two-fold from now onwards. I think my learners are going to be very excited to be at school. Coming to school will be the norm now, attendance will improve because they will be having access to the world and to all the information that is available through BluPoint and whatever data and information that you have on BluPoint. I am really excited and I’m pretty sure next week when you guys come in to demonstrate to the staff and pupils they will be over-excited and lives will change at our school.”
In July 2016 BluPoint brought free offline access to curated educational content to 15 schools in South Africa as part of a pilot project generously funded by Dixons Carphone as part of their CSR project and in partnership with Mr Price Foundation (MRP).
